Uppu Pindi - A simple one pot meal.
Ingredients:
- 2 Cups Rice Rava
- 1 Cup Moong Dal
- 4 to 6 Green Chillis
- 3" Long Ginger
- Salt to Taste
- 2 Tbsp Oil
- 1 Tbsp Chana Dal
- 1 Tbsp Urad Dal
- 1 Tbsp Mustard Seeds
- 1 Tbsp Cumin Seeds
- 5 to 7 Curry Leaves
- 1/4 Tsp Asafoetida
- 5 Cups of Water
Procedure:
- Chop green chillis and ginger.
- Heat oil in a thick bottomed pan, add urad dal and chana dal.
- Saute them till they change colour.
- Once the dals started changing colour add musatard seeds and cumin seeds.
- When they start spluttering add curry leaves and moong dal.
- Again saute for a minute and add water. Water ratio is for 1 cup of rice rava add 2 and 1/2 cups of water.
- If using home made rice rava, we can add another half cup of water.
- Add salt and let the water come rolling boiling.
- Once water started boiling add rice rava and cook on loow flame.
- Mix it well and allow this cook for 10 to 15 minutes on low flame only.
- Once the rava cooked completely, add a tablespoon of oil over it and let the upma settle for another 5 minutes.
- Serve uppu pindi or rice rava upma with tomato chutney or any other spicy pickle.
