Raw mango pappu a best side dish for rice.
Ingredients:
- 1 Raw Mango
- 1 Cup Toor Dal
- Salt to Taste
- 1/2 Tbsp Red Chilli powder
- 1 Tsp Asafoetida/Hing
- 1 Tbsp Oil
- 1 Tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1 cumin Seeds
- 2 Red Chillis
- 6 to 8 Garlic (optional)
- 5 to 7 Curry Leaves
- 5 to 7 Curry Leaves
- Fistful Coriander Leaves
Procedure:
- Pressure cook toor dal for three whistles.
- Once the pressure reduces take the dal out and mash. Keep it aside.
- Peel the skin and cut mango into cubes.
- Peel the skin of garlic, if you are not adding them, you can skip this step.
- Heat oil in a thick bottomed vessel, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chillis and hing.
- Once they start spluttering add garlic and curry leaves.
- Add mango pieces and stir well.
- Add salt and turmeric powder. Combine them well.
- Add little water.
- Cover the vessel and cook for 3 minutes.
- If the mango is sour, it won't take much time to cook. Hardly 8 to 10 mins.
- Once the mango softens add cooked dal.
- Combine it well and lastly add red chilli powder.
- Once again mix it well and switch off the flame.
- Serve mamidikaya pappu with hot piping rice, papad mix/Appadala pinci and with challa mirapakayalu (curd chillis).
