Vellulli Karam Podi Recipe | How to make Vellulli Karam Podi | Chilli Garlic Powder

Hi friends, Today's recipe is Vellulli karam podi. There are two versions of vellulli karam recipe. One version of vellulli karam is pachadi and another version of vellulli karam is powder. This version of vellulli karam (chilli garlic) is made mainly in the Rayalaseema regions of Andhra Pradesh. I learned this from my Sister-In-Law. Check out for Vellulli karam pachadi here.
Vellulli Karam Podi

Vellulli karam podi is good for health as we use curry leaves and garlic in this. Garlic helps in improving immunity as well as garlic helps in curing throat problems also. Garlic or vellulli also helps in curing back pain to ladies. We also make another version of vellulli karam to newly delivered mothers to get rid of post delivery issues.

Vellulli Karam Podi Recipe

Serve vellulli karam powder with hot piping rice and ghee.

Ingredients:
  • 1 Tbsp Black Gram/Urad Dal
  • 1 Tbsp Bengal Gram/Chana Dal
  • 1/2 Cup Curry Leaves
  • 5 to 7 Garlic
  • Salt to Taste
  • 1 Tsp Oil
  • 5 to 7 Red Chillis

  • Procedure:
    1. Peel the skin of garlic and keep aside.
    2. Heat oil in a pan.
    3. Fry black gram/urad dal and bengal gram/chana dal till they turn light golden yellow.
    4. Add red chillis and fry them for 2 to 3 minutes
    5. Keep them aside.
    6. Again heat the same pan, add curry leaves and fry them till they become crisp.
    7. Keep them aside. Allow them to cool.
    8. Once all of them cooled down, add all of them into a blender jar except garlic and salt.
    9. Make coarse powder.
    10. Add salt and blend it again.
    11. Add garlic pods and blend it again.
    12. Press only whip or pulse button in the mixer grinder.
    13. Serve vellulli karam podi with hot piping rice and ghee.
