Palak Poriyal -- side dish for rice and roti.
Ingredients:
- 2 Cups Palak/Spinach
- 1 Onion
- 1 Cup Fresh Coconut
- 3 to 4 Green Chillis
- 3" Ginger
- 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
- Salt to Taste
- 1 Tbsp Oil
- 1 Tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1/2 Tsp Black Gram/Urad Dal
- 1/2 Tsp Bengal Gram/Chana Dal
- 3to 4 Garlic
- 1/2 Tsp Turmeric powder
Procedure:
- Discard palak leaves from its stems.
- Finely chop them and wash.
- Spread the chopped palak on a dry cloth to dry.
- Chop onion.
- In a blender jar add fresh coconut, green chillis, ginger and cumin seeds.
- Blend them to make paste of it.
- Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds.
- Once they start spluttering add urad dal and chana dal.
- Saute them.
- Add chopped onion and fry them till they become translucent.
- Add minced garlic and curry leaves.
- Add chopped and washed palak.
- Add salt and turmeric powder.
- Let the palak cook completely.
- Add above blended coconut chillis masala.
- Mix them well.
- Let palak poriyal cook for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Serve palak poriyal with hot piping rice or roti.
