Black masoor dal or whole masoor dal is rich in dietary fibre and iron. It is best accompanied with roti or jowar roti.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 Cup Black Masoor Dal
- 1 Onion
- 1 Tomato
- Salt to Taste
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Red chilli Powder
- 1 tsp Garam Masala Powder
- 1 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
- 1/4 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 1 Green Chilli(slit)
- 1 tbsp coriander leaves(freshly chopped)
Procedure:
- Soak black masoor dal for half an hour to 1 hour.
- If you do not have time, you can cook directly.
- Pressure cook the dal for 3 to 5 whistles.
- If not soaking then cook for 5 whistles otherwise 3 are enough.
- Once the pressure goes off, open it.
- Mash the dal to make it soft. Keep it aside.
- Chop onion, tomato and slit green chilli.
- Heat oil in thick bottom kadai.
- Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add onions and saute them for a minute.
- Add tomatoes and mix them well till they turn mushy.
- Add turmeric powder, and salt .
- Allow it to cook for a minute.
- Add all other masalas like, ginger garlic paste, garam masala, and red chilli powder.
- Combine them well.
- Add a little water and allow them to cook well for 3 to 5 minutes.
- Add mashed dal and allow it to cook for another 3 minutes.
- Sprinkle some freshly chopped coriander leaves.
- Again allow black masoor dal to cook for another 3 minutes.
- Transfer it to serving bowl. Sprinkle some freshy coriander leaves.
- Serve hot spicy black masoor dal with roti or jowar roti.
