Jal jeera translates literally to cumin water, in Hindi. On a scorching sunny day, drink something cool and good for digestion i.e. Jaljeera. Though it is North Indian dish, it is served as appetizer in South India also. We get jaljeera powder also in stores. We can mix it with chilled water and serve immediately.

Jal Jeera

Ingredients:

  • 1 and 1/2 Litre Chilled Water
  • 1 Cup Coriander Leaves
  • 1/2 Cup Mint Leaves
  • 1/2 Tablespoon Roasted Cumin Powder
  • 1/4 Tablespoon Black Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon Dry Mango Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 3" Long Ginger
  • 1 Teaspoon Asafoetida
  • 1/2 Cup Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 Tablespoon Sugar

Procedure:

  1. Discard coriander leaves and mint leaves from their stems.
  2. Wash them thoroughly.
  3. Add all the ingredients except lemon juice in blender jar.
  4. Blend them to a fine paste.
  5. We can store this for further use also.
  6. Add this mixture in water and add lemon juice.
  7. Refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours.
  8. Enjoy chilled jaljeera as an appetizer.
