Dosakaya or Yellow Cucumber is a very healthy vegetable we can make different varities with it like pappu, pulusu, pickle and chutney. It is good for digestion. Yellow Cucumber tastes a bit sour, some times they come in bitter taste also. Do not use the bitter ones, throw them.
Today I am giving how to make dal with them. A simple and easy dish to make. It tastes very nice and can consumed with rice. It requires very less ingredients and also less time to cook.
Ingredients:
Yellow Cucumber/Dosakaya - 1
Toor Dal/Lentil - 1/2 cup
Green Chillies - 1
Salt - to taste
Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
Red Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
Curry Leaves - 5 to 7
Coriander Leaves - fist full
For Tadka:
Oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Red Chilli - 1
Asafoetida Powder - 1 tsp
Procedure:
Pressure Cook toor dal for three whistles. Once it gets cool, mash the dal with a laddle and keep a side.
Peel and cut yellow cucumber into cubes.
Heat oil in a pressure pan, add all the ingredients under 'For Tadka'. Once they start spluttering add the yellow cucumber and green chillies.
Add salt and turmeric powder. Pressure cook them for one or two whistles.
Once the cooker cools down open the lid and add toor dal. Add red chilli powder and mix well.
On top of it add fresh curry leaves and coriander leaves.
Serve dosakaya pappu/dal with yellow cucumber with hot piping rice.
